DAY 2 - NIGHT OF TURNING THE TIDE

Bible Reading:
1 Sam. 25:2-25

Bible Text:
“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” (Prov. 15:1)

MIDNIGHT MEDITATION:

Indeed “people ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord’ (Prov. 19:3). Nabal’s foolish reply to David would have cost the death of many people who were not even related to him. Come to think of it, was the reply given by Nabal related to the question David asked? David had requested that Nabal give his men a little meal for sustenance and Nabal’s reply was that there are many servants that break away from their master and he would not want to be associated with such. David fleeing from King Saul was none of Nabal’s business but he choose not to pay attention to the kindness of David and his men towards his own men and livestock and this unruly act of Nabal incited David’s wrath; thus, he swore to utterly destroy every male that belonged to Nabal. Many issues and challenges/problems we face today are as a result of the actions and inactions of those who are in authority over us.

Nabal as the husband of Abigail was the head of the household and as an astute businessman, he ruled over those who worked under him. A leader is expected to put into consideration the interest of his subjects before taking any decision as any results that accrue would be borne also by him. But Nabal did not consider this. Perhaps he was in the same political party with king Saul and that prompted him to take such a stance against David’s request. Tonight, as you pray, the plans of the wicked shall be frustrated.
Many wars, crises, riot and chaos would have been avoided if we had leaders at home, school, church, state, nation who would consider the lasting effects of their actions on the lives of 99% of their subjects.

Thank God for depositing a godly woman in the household of Nabal, she did not procrastinate or defer her actions like many would do today but made haste to put her plans into actions. But for the timely intervention and godly act of Abigail, Nabal and his entire household would be singing a different tune after David’s impending visit. Do we still have women like Abigail that will not defer the salvation of their family upon a flimsy excuse but would arise and act timeously? Do we have women who will intercede for the actions/inactions of our leaders? Abigail hurriedly made preparations without the knowledge of her husband because he would have prevented her from doing what she had planned. In the place of intercession, you do not need to inform people who you know will discourage you but rather strive to fulfill your mandate.

When Abigail met with David who was riding with haste towards her town with all furiousness and bitter rage in his eyes:
  1. She humbled herself before him: it is only God, our maker and defender that can turn the tide of evil against our family. In Prov. 21:1 the Bible states that the hearts of kings are in the hands of God to do as He pleases. The hearts of our leaders are controlled by God Almighty. Tonight as we approach Him, do so with all humility so that His anger and revulsion towards us will be assuaged. Beloved, God is God all by Himself. Nothing we do or not do makes Him less or more than who He is.
  2. She pleaded for mercy: as we intercede tonight, plead for the mercy of God upon our leaders –at home, church, institutions, nation and State.
  3. She was honest: she exposed the root of the problem to David; she did not bother hiding the truth but carefully explained to David. When you approach God’s throne tonight, do not try to sugar coat the issues you have noticed that has led to the turbulence prevailing around you; God is eager to hear you speak to Him, with all amount of transparency.
  4. She appealed to him: tonight, you are before the Appeal Court of God, for the upturning of all the effects of wrong decisions taken by our leaders that are negatively affecting the families and the nation.
  5. She praised: after all has been laid to rest before the altar of God, praises shall ascend.
Are you ready to turn away the effects of bad decisions taken on behalf of your family/nation? Take a position of prayer and present your case to the Lord as we take the following prayer points:

PRAYER POINTS:

  1. Oh God, forgive me in any way I have not been sensitive to the wrong actions of our family members in authority.
  2. Lord Jesus, have mercy on us and forgive us of every evil action taken by any member of my family.
  3. Have mercy upon our nation and forgive our leaders for their shortcomings.
  4. Lord Jesus, as I intercede for my leaders tonight, answer me.
  5. By your mercy, deliver my family from every danger that could have been caused by the negative behaviour of any of us.
  6. As you took away the impending wrath from the family of Nabal, may every impending trouble against my family be taken away tonight.
  7. I seal up every loop hole that the enemy wanted to use and scatter our family. I pray for more women like Abigail to locate my family in Jesus name.
  8. Almighty God, break the bow and shield of every enemy seeking to destroy my family; where there was trouble in, replace with your peace in Jesus name.
  9. O God, grant me wisdom to always stand in the gap for my family for good.
  10. Nobody in my family will be a casualty but we will all work together in dominion as overcomers.
  11. Oh God, let the seed of sorrow from the enemy against my family be destroyed.
  12. Oh God, cause my family to flourish beyond measure as the seed of Abraham; make my family a happy home in Jesus name – amen.
