Scriptural Reading:
Numbers 13:25-33

Text:
“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God.” (vs. 3:12).

Commentary:
The act of neglecting God’s total ownership upon one’s life arises from two basic factors, namely, hardness of heart and unbelief.  These things stand to deceive and deny one from receiving the blessings God has for him/her. Unbelief puts one at variance with himself and nurtures him with evil reports as in the case of the spies (cf. Num. 13:28-29). But for Caleb, they would have gone on instilling fear in the people.

Fear makes one magnify things while reducing oneself and the potency of God. Belief, on the other hand, gives rise to strength to face any obstacle head-on.  Caleb said “… let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” (Num. 13:30). No one can confuse you if you know whom you believe in. Everybody must believe in something, but those who claim not to believe in anything always end up believing in everything.

Tonight, why not believe in the Lord Jesus Christ so that you will be saved. From our study text, the scripture challenges us: “but exhort one another daily, while it is called “today”, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” Note that unbelief is a sin against God. Believe God to experience the peace He alone gives.

Prayer Points:
1.         Dear Lord, cause me never to doubt but to believe you absolutely.
2.         Oh Lord, give me the grace to starve my doubt to death.
3.         Almighty God, kindly use me to display your glory in Jesus’ name.

Sleeping Capsule:
Only he who believes is obedient, He who serves God has a good master.
