Clean Hands and Pure Heart
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.(Psalm 23:1-6 NKJV)
Key Text:
“Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully” (vs 3-4)
Commentary:
In the Old Testament, one of the basic requirements to step into the Holy of Holies was that the Priest must start purifying themselves weeks before the time they were to go before the presence of the Lord. And when that time comes, they were to make atonement for themselves first and then for the people before going to the presence of the Lord.
But in this dispensation of grace, Christ had offered Himself once and for all for our sins as the perfect sacrifice and the scripture says “your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God” (1 Corinthians 6:19 NKJV). By this, the implication is that we should live with that consciousness that unlike when the Priest that intermittently purified themselves to appear before the Lord, We ourselves, appear before the presence of the Lord everyday of our lives, therefore a consciousness of Purity should be indwelling in us. For the flow of communication between God and us not to be interrupted, we must always keep our hearts pure, and God’s temple clean from evil filth of sin.
As you are about to sleep tonight, make a decision to always keep your hands clean and your heart pure because you are the temple and the temple must be fit for the masters dwelling at all times.
