Banking on God's Promise
"By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff. By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel, and gave instructions concerning his bones." (Hebrews 11:20-22NKJV)
Key Text:
“By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.” (vs. 20)
Commentary:
One thing in life is, believing God for the now and another spectacular thing is believing God for the future generation, and banking on a promise that was made before you were born.
Isaac blessed Esau and Jacob in accordance to God’s promise to Abraham (Heb. 11:20), Jacob did same when he blessed his children (Heb. 11:21), and Joseph gave specific instructions concerning his bones right before he died (Heb 11:22), still leaning on the same promise God made to Abraham (Gen. 12:1-9) – Now that is Faith. Each of these generations, though they were not present at the time the promise was given, each of these men took God at His word. They banked on God’s promise to their father and forefather Abraham and they taught their children to do likewise and the evident of this blessing was seen in as many generations that believed it.
For so many centuries, we are still seeing the effect of that promise. But my question to you is: ‘How confident are you of God’s promise?’ are you willing to walk with it at all cost and to teach your family to do likewise. God never fails, and to all who would bank on His promise, He won’t fail them.
